A10: iPhone messaging interface is similar to the MSN chat, which all the conversation under the same number will be grouped. Thus, iPhone does not support SMS forward.

Q11: What is Multi-Touch-Point technology? How it applied on iPhone? What does this technology different with other common touch screen handphones?
A11: Ordinary touch screen handphone can only identify single point of a touch operation, while iPhone’s multi-touch-point screen could identify two or more than two touch operation. That’s the reason why images in iPhone can be enlarged and dragged. IPhone’s touch technology is the latest “capacitive touch screen” technology. Same technology also being used in newer Prada, and other high-end touch-screen handphones.

Capacitive touch screen is a four-layer composite glass screen. Each glass screen and dissection of the inner surface are coated with a layer of ITO (conductive coating glass). When fingers touch on the screen, a very small current will be transfered to finger on the fingers-screen contacting point. iPhone built-in controller will then precisely calculated the coordination of touch point. Moreover, no pressure required for a capacitive touch screen to detect a touch has made iPhone virtual keyboard operation speed can even comparable to a regular keyboard.
IPhone capacitive touch screen will not respond to a touch from non-conductive surface. Therefore, the problem of mis-operation or accidentally dial out can be eliminated if you put iPhone in your pocket.
Q12: How is iPhone screen?
A12: iPhone diagonal screen is a length of 3.5 inches, 320 x 480 resolution 3:2 screen (160 dpi) to support multi-touch-point technology. The screen performance is superior.
Q13: When does iPhone available in worldwide and Malaysia market? How much it cost?
A13: iPhone first landed on US market on 29th June 2007, and began landing the European market in November 2007. O2, T-mobile, and Orange hold exclusive marketing rights in Britain, Germany and France, respectively. Unfortunately, its Asian release is slated for 2008. Some rumors says iPhone will only landed on Malaysia in 2009.
IPhone comes with either 4GB or 8GB of internal storage, costing US$299 (RM1,046.50) and US$399 (RM1,396.50) in the United States. (Note: Price in RM subjected to MYR/USD 3.5 exchange rate, and exclusive of US government tax) For your reference, i bought my iPhone in Texas which cost me US$ 432 ($399 + $33 state government tax). Different states in US subjecting different rate of state government tax. You may choose the lowest state government tax to buy.
Alternatively, you may buy iPhone from local IT store. I found unlocked iPhone is available at LowYat now, which priced around RM 2,400-RM 2,999. Beware, now there is China cloned version iPhone (not from Apple) also penetrating our local market. The fake iPhone price should just around RM 450 (as rumors says), but seller at LowYat mark it at RM 2,000 ++. There are some additional button on China cloned version iPhone (see following picture) make it different from original Apple iPhone.

Q14: iPhone is allowed to use on flight?
A14: A: Yes, the iPhone allows you to switch to Airplane Mode, which shut down all communication signals. So, it should be safe to use on flight. (but i guess you still need to ask permission from crews)

Q15: Can iPhone used as a portable hard disk?
A15: A: iPhone connected to the computer through a USD cable and must required iTunes or other third-party software iBrickr to access to its storage device. So, iPhone is not a suitable and convenient portable hard drive.
Q16: What should i do if my iPhone is hang or experiencing program crash?
A16: Press and hold the Home button and POWER button simultaneously for about 8 seconds, you will see “Slide to power off” bar. Ignore it and when 10 seconds, your iPhone will restart.
Many complaints regarding iPhone program unstable on net. Some may experienced iPhone refresh back to desktop or locked screen automatically when you open any program on iPhone. To solve this problem, you may turn off “Dim Wallpaper” in SummerBoard. If you still facing same problem, uninstall the SummerBoard. Please leave your comment whether this method helps, thanks.

A29: As of now the iPod Touch and iPhone do not support Java, but in the near future that might change. An official from Sun Microsystems said he believes that Java is going to be ported to these devices.
He said that Apple is planning to release a SDK for these devices in early 2008 (February), which would then result in Java ME (the open source version of Java) to be created for the device.
This could also mean more plug-ins would be ported to the device when the SDK is released. This could potentially lead to a flash player for safari. All of these updates would make the iPod Touch and iPhone better and more functional.
The founder of Apples, Job Steve has said iPhone will not support Flash. May be we need to wait for third-party flash plug-in for Safari.

There are 2 methods to charge your iPhone.
1) Connect iPhone (at the bottom) to the provided USB cable, and plug another end of USB connector to Apple USB Power Adapter (refer to picture under Q3 in this post). The plug the adapter to socket and charge your iPhone as normal.
2) Plug your iPhone (from the botom) to the provided Apple Dock Connector, then charge iPhone though USB cable with your computer.
To unlock iPhone, you may refer to my another post:

Hi, thx for ur effort on writing this FAQ… very useful…
I’m a Malaysian. I just bought this phone 2 days ago (firmware is v1.1.3).
Problem I face:
Yesterday, I try to update my iphone with latest firmware (v1.1.4), it successfully update and auto reboot. After reboot, it says something like “sim card is not supported”. I wonder if it’s due to v1.1.4 is not support in Malaysia yet. I still plan to bring my phone back to shop today, but looks like I can try to use your FAQ Q2 method to try out 1st…
Some doubts:
I still abit confuse on “locked” iphone. What means by that and how we know our iphone is locked or not? Can we unlocked ourself?
I really hope I can assign MP3 as ringtone. Is it possible to do so without downloading from itune (coz I don’t think download is FOC)…
Sorry for posting out so many questions… :p
